PRIVATE PILOT ADDITIONAL RATING COURSE

ROTORCRAFT/HELICOPTER | Robinson R22, R44, & S300

A Private Helicopter Pilot Additional Rating allows you to add a rotorcraft category and helicopter class ratings to your existing pilot license. The student will learn how to fly a helicopter building upon skill and knowledge previously acquired from previous pilot experience. At the end of the Private Helicopter Pilot Additional Rating Course, you will have acquired the aeronautical knowledge and flight proficiency necessary to pass the required tests to add Private Pilot privileges to your existing pilot license.

Course Details

Students who hold a Private Pilot Certificate in a category other than Rotorcraft/Helicopter (such as Airplane) may add the Private Helicopter Rating without taking the Private Helicopter Knowledge Test. Please note that SFAR-73-1 requires 20 hours of dual instruction prior to solo practice. 

MINIMUM COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Hold a current FAA Third Class Medical Certificate

  2. Hold a valid Private Pilot Certificate in a category other than Rotorcraft/Helicopter 

  3. Pass an FAA Private Pilot Helicopter Practical Test 

  4. Obtain 35 hours of flight time and 35 of ground instruction as per course outline

  • 30 hours of dual instruction​​

    • Aircraft Rental - 30.0 hrs. ​

    • Instructor (Flight - Basic) –– 27.7 hrs 

    • Instructor (Flight - Stage Check) 2.5 hrs 

  • 5 hours of solo practice 

    • Aircraft Rental 5.0 hrs

  • 35 hours of ground instruction

    • Instructor (Ground - Basic) - 35.0 hours​
